RVC Buckingham Chapter August Community Meeting

Hello dear friends,

 I hope this message finds you well. Our next Rural Virginia Coalition (RVC) NO Valley Link Community Meeting is scheduled for this Saturday August 8th 3:30-5:00 PM at the Buckingham Ag Building/Virginia Cooperative Extension Office (54 Administration Lane Buckingham, VA 23921). Zoom Link is provided at the end of this email. ALL are welcome!

 We have invited two of the candidates running for the US Congress in Virginia's District 05 to join us at this meeting and share their views on the Valley Link Joshua Falls to Yeat project. Tom Perriello has confirmed his attendance. He will be coming from another engagement and expects to arrive at our meeting around 4:15 PM. We are still waiting for a definitive response from Representative John McGuire. I will have a prepared list of questions. If time permits, we may be able to take one or two questions from the in-person audience.  

 As always, the agenda is in flux because every day brings a new opportunity and a new angle for us to leverage to send Valley Link and Dominion Energy packing.  The tentative agenda is:

  • Update on July 30th Valley Link Buckingham “Office Hours.” I recorded the 43 minutes I spent with Rob Richardson from Valley Link. This event was scheduled last minute and poorly advertised. I tried to hit as many topics and questions as possible to capture what this community deserves to know about this project.

  • Potential update on Dominion Energy’s proposed mega gas-fired power plant in Cumberland County

  • Brief words about the SCC process

  • One landowner’s experience fighting the Atlantic Coast Pipeline and now Valley Link

  • Discussion on data centers in Buckingham. Whispers abound…

  • Q&A with Tom Perriello and hopefully John McGuire

Five months into this fight, we have Valley Link up against the ropes. They are exhausted, slipping up in their messaging, and don’t seem to know how to pivot when communities don’t follow their playbook. Meanwhile, we grow stronger, more resolved, and gain opposition ground every single day. And that, my friends, is because of YOU!
